My work is an exploration of composition and the most basic visual elements: line, square, black and primary colors.
For the past decade, I have been creating my characteristic black canvases. Initially, the square fields of my rasters were freehand, but over the years I refined the style to be more precise. Geometric abstraction offers me enough space to explore composition, which is central to my work. I spend a lot of time sketching before actual painting starts. I then apply and remove paint on the canvas. The stability of the repetitive rhythm in this process gives me time to reflect on everything that surrounds me.
My main color is black because it has weight and substance. It has a power I seek to transfer to my works. While trends come and go, I aim for my art to have a lasting impact. I use primary colors to add rhythm, movement and symbolism.
While my painting is disciplined and leaves no room for major mistakes, my textile creations embrace freedom and spontaneity. Both mediums feature the moiré effect, which creates optical changes based on the viewer’s perspective. Through this, I aim to highlight the importance of experiencing art in person, as it offers a different and more meaningful experience than shallow scrolling on a digital screen.
